 To expand access to and application of innovative environmental data, promoting healthier, more equitable, and sustainable environments.

MISSION

CANUE collates, develops and mobilizes high-quality, standardized data to improve urban environmental health and address inequities driven by urbanization and climate change. Through national and international partnerships across academia, government, non-profit organizations, communities and the private sector, we deliver data, tools and information to researchers, urban planners, public health experts, media, and the general public, promoting a better understanding of environmental health impacts and new solutions to improve the wellbeing of all Canadians.

WHAT WE DO

ADVANCE DATA INNOVATION

  • Develop state-of-the-art environmental metrics used for health research, surveillance and advocacy
  • Maintain robust data platforms with health-relevant indicators
  • Incorporate emerging data sources to enhance urban environmental health research, surveillance, and policy

CREATE ACCESSIBLE TOOLS FOR KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

  • Distribute environmental exposure data to researchers for impactful research
  • Equip planners and public health experts with targeted tools
  • Inform the public and media about environmental health issues
  • Adopt emerging technologies for data and information sharing

FOSTER PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATION

  • Promote data use through stakeholder partnerships
  • Collaborate internationally to share knowledge and best practices
  • Evaluate better means of connecting data products to end users

BUILD CAPACITY FOR RESEARCH AND TRAINING

  • Provide a national platform for data sharing, knowledge exchange and integration of diverse environmental data into health research platforms
  • Offer comprehensive training across CANUE data and tools 
  • Foster a community of practice around open data for advancing environments and health research and policy
